Husky / Siberian Husky / Mixed : : Male : : Young : : Medium
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.
9/23/14 Leo is a husky mix who was abandoned when his owner's moved away. They locked him inside the home and left him, with no food, no water, and no way to go outside to potty. We don't know how long he was left that way but when he came to us, he was very thin and very unsure of himself. He is slowly gaining some confidence and putting on some weight. He is very clingy to the people he bonds to, which is really anyone who is kind to him. He loves to give hugs and wants to shadow me all the time. Leo is crate trained and does not have accidents in his crate. He is not yet completely house trained but is working on it. He hasn't yet learned that he shouldn't mark inside the house. But he is getting there, it will just take time and patience. Leo loves everyone he meets and is not shy. He does, however, show some food aggression. He just doesn't like having anyone handle his food while he is eating. Once he is finished with it, he doesn't care, but while he is eating, he doesn't want anyone touching his food. He probably would not be a good candidate for a home with children for this reason. It is my belief that he will overcome this once he realizes he will not have to go hungry again. I avoid it by feeding him in his crate, so no one is near his food while he is trying to eat. Leo has the potential to make a wonderful, loving companion. He would also make an excellent running partner. He is vocal like all huskies are, so he wouldn't do well in an apartment setting. Otherwise, he is a great dog who could make someone very happy. We believe Leo is about a year old and he weighs about 45lbs. He has done well with the other dogs here that are 30lbs and up. He does not care for smaller dogs, I think they make him nervous, as he isn't sure what to think of them. He hasn't hurt anyone, but he seems very antsy around smaller dogs. I don't think he would do well with cats. Leo is here in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adopted.
