8/26/14 Hank is a wonderful guy who came into rescue after being taken to a kill shelter by his owner's family when she went into a nursing home. Prior to going to the nursing home, Hank's owner suffered from dementia and it seems that she forgot to feed Hank so he was very under weight when he arrived and the shelter and then he lost more weight from grieving for his mom. Poor guy had a hard way to go. The shelter did a good job putting weight back on him but after he had been there for a few months, the shelter filled up and Hank found himself on the euthanasia list. We found out about him 2 days before his scheduled euthanasia day. With the help of some amazing volunteers, we were able to get Hank out of the shelter in time and get him to a safe foster home in Arkansas. Hank is a wonderful guy, a real gentleman. He does not jump up on people but will sit patiently and wait to be acknowledged. He is working on house training. Because his mom kept him inside and forgot to let him out to potty and also because she didn't have him neutered, Hank was not completely house trained but he is working on it. He was neutered when he came into rescue so that will help. Hank gets along great with other dogs and we will be testing him with cats shortly. Hank is estimated to be about 5 years old and he weighs about 50lbs. We believe he is a Golden Retriever mixed with Lab. As you can see from the pictures, Hank LOVES the water and spends as much time as possible in the kiddie pool. He would make a wonderful companion for a home with or without kids, as he is so gentle and kind in spirit. Hank will remain in his foster home in Arkansas until he is adopted, at which time he will be transported to the northeast to his new family.
