3/18/14 Peanut is a beautiful AmStaff/Pit Bull mix who is urgently seeking a home. Peanut was an owned dog but when he was a young puppy, his owner had a horrible accident and was not able to care for his pets properly from then on. For a year, Peanut lived in a chainlink kennel with a 14 year old wolf hybrid. His owner threw food into the kennel daily, over the chainlink, but never went in and never got the dogs out. As a result, Peanut is very shy with people at first. After a year of this, the owner's health further declined and his pets were surrendered to a kill shelter. One of the volunteers there got the wolf hybrid into a rescue, but no one wanted to take in Peanut because he is a Pit mix. Peanut was ok there at the shelter - it is a similar set up to what he had at his home - outside kennels, little or no human interaction. So he wasn't getting the socialization he needed, but had a couple of dogs placed in the kennel with him. One of the other dogs severely attacked Peanut one night when there was no one there to hear his cries. The next morning, the shelter staff and a volunteer found him, beat up and sad. From then on, Peanut fell into a very serious depression, refusing to eat and just pitiful. The volunteer posted about it on facebook and a lady who saw it said she wanted to adopt him. Had the shelter take him to get necessary vet care and had them place him in a boarding facility, where she was supposed to pick him up. Then she never showed up to get him. She stuck the shelter with the entire vet bill and the boarding bill. When the boarding bill didn't get paid, they wanted to return him to the shelter but were told that he would be euthanized due to over crowding. So he has been in boarding since then. We at Adopt A Stray want to help this beautiful, gentle boy find a home of his own. He is now about 2 years old. Peanut's adopter will need to be committed to really working with him. He is not aggressive at all - he is just very shy. He would do best in a home with another dog to help him come out of his shell. He loves to play with other dogs. And once he gets used to you, he will play with you too! He has gotten to know some of the staff in boarding and he is a staff favorite there now. He goes bonkers when they offer him treats and is just a goof ball with those that he is comfortable with. This boy will be such a devoted and loyal companion to the person who has the patience and gentleness to help him trust. Peanut is in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adopted.
