9/22/13 Meet Max! He is an amazing guy who is searching for a family to love. Max is about 3-4 years old and was surrendered to AASR by his owner. Max had been purchased from a breeder as a puppy and his owner then took him home and allowed him to live indoors for about a year. Then Max's dad got married and Max was moved outside because his new "mom" doesnt allow dogs in the house, no matter how well behaved. Max was then tied up to a tree, where he lived for the next year. Once his owners grew tired of listening to complaints from the neighbors about Max being chained, they took him off of the chain and allowed him to just run loose. Max was hit by a car on 3 seperate occasions, none of which resulted in any life threatening injuries. After the 3rd time, Max was surrendered to us. When I got Max, he was in so much painful that he could not move without screaming in pain. Due to it being the weekend, and no vets in the area open, I treated him with anti inflammatories and by Monday he was much improved. Max was completely fine by mid week. That was in July. Max tested positive for heartworms and we had him treated for them on Aug 12-13. He has had no complication or problems with the heartworms or the treatment and is now completely healthy. Now, about Max's personality. Max is everything anyone could want in a dog. He is perfect. He is totally housetrained and crate trained. He is affectionate - he has to have a hug first thing every morning, even before he will go out to potty. He just loves to be loved. Max gets along well with other dogs as long as they don't challenge him. He would do best with a submissive female if there are to be other dogs in the home. Max does NOT do well with cats. He can not go to a home with cats, as he will chase them relentlessly. Other than the cat issue, he is perfect. Max is surprisingly agile for his build, and will run and jump over the steps going up to the deck, missing all 3 steps, when he is in the mood to be frisky. Since the weather has turned cooler he is more active during his outdoor time. Max has absolutely no interest in being outdoors without his person. He will sit at the door and wait patiently for you if you leave him outside. He hates rain and will not go outside on a rainy day, unless you make him. But he will not potty inside either. He will "hold it" until the weather improves, unless you force him to go out. He walks well on a leash and make a great walking companion, but probably would not be a good candidate for long runs. Being a bulldog he was not built for speed or endurance. But a nice leisurely walk is something he would love. Max is not a very vocal dog. He is crated for several hours every day and never makes a sound. He loves all people - men, women, children. He will make a fantastic companion for a family. He asks for nothing except love. That's it. He will be missed when he gets adopted, but I will be so happy for him to have a family of his own, where he can get the attention he deserves. Max is located in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adopted.
