PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.

3/11/13 This is Honey. She is a tiny little 8lb Chihuahua/Pug mix. Honey needs a home with someone who will be patient while she adjusts and learns that she can trust her new person. Her instinct is to not trust anyone, and I think she is this way because of past experience. Poor little girl has been traumatized somewhere down the road, and she bears the emotional scars of that experience. Honey was a stray that had wandered onto some people's property in October 2012. She would not let them catch her and growled when they tried to approach her. They called me and asked me to come get her. As it turned out, we had to trap her. Once I had her home, I kept her in the crate for several days, only having anything to do with her when I put food/water and clean pee pads in the crate for her. She bit me twice. After a few days, I let her out of the crate, confined to my bedroom, and I would go in there several times every day with goodies like canned dog food, lunch meat, etc, trying to get her to trust me. She would run up to me, snatch the food from my fingers and hide under my bed. After a few days of this, she would come up to me and climb into my lap but still would not allow me to put my hands on her. After about a week, I decided that we were not making much progress so I put her in my bathroom, and took away the crate. That way, she would have no choice but to come out and see me when I was in the room. No place to hide from me in there. I gave her a soft bed and 2 blankets, which I soon discovered she loved to snuggle in! It only took a few days before she would come up and ask for me to pick her up. And she has loved me since then. She now begs me to hold her, let her sit in my lap, pet her, etc. She has graduated from her bathroom confinement to having run of the house most of the time. She is still not welcoming to other people. She will allow my 16 year old daughter to pick her up and has allowed a few people to pet her. If anyone she doesn't trust tries to pet her, she will bite. She is fearful of people that have not earned her trust, so it is important that her adopter understands this and has the patience to allow her to come around in her own time. Honey does not care for the company of other dogs. She will tolerate them if they don't bother her. She does not seek out my dogs but if they try to play with her or interact with her, she gets defensive. There have been a couple of instances where she did accept the playfulness of my pitbull and they actually had fun, but these were few and far between - for the most part she needs to be the only dog or the other dog in the home needs to have an aloof personality and not expect Honey to play with them. Obviously, Honey would not be a good match for a home w/ children. She is active and loves to play with toys. She is a good little cuddler once you earn her trust. She walks well on a leash, potties on her pee pads (and sometimes on the carpet, pet beds, blankets left on the floor, etc. but usually just on the pee pads). She loves to go for car rides and will sit in your lap the entire time, looking out the window. Honey is located in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adopted. Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.
