About Virgil

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes

11/25/11 Virgil is a 4 year old male Bloodhound/Great Pyrenees mix. He is such a perfect mix of the two breeds. He has the adorable bloodhound eyes and soft floppy ears, and a pyrenees body type. He loves to cuddle and loves nothing more than to be petted and loved on. He is an indoor dog and loves spending time just hanging out on the couch, with his family. Virgil would do best in a home with older children, or with no children. He loves people and attention, but the family's 1 year old makes him nervous and we want Virgil to be happy! Virgil is great with other dogs and cats as well. His family is rehoming him due to Virgil's nervousness around their young child. This is what his mom says about him:  We love Virgil so much and have loved having him in our family. Unfortunately we have to find him a new family to love him just as much as we do. We have a 15 month old daughter and busy schedules and we just don't have the time to give him the attention he absolutely deserves. It's not fair to him and breaks our hearts to know he isn't as happy as he could be. Also, he doesn't do too well with our young daughter. He has never bit her or harmed her in anyway, but she's at the age where she is hyper, running around and doesn't know personal space. She just wants to be in his face and on top of him all the time and that makes Virgil nervous and he doesn't like it. A big nervous dog around a 15 month old makes me nervous! It's okay for him to be around children, just not little children that are in his face all the time. As long as the child knows to give him his space and not be all over him all the time, he will be fine! Other than that he does well with all people. We are trying to avoid putting him in a shelter at all costs. He deserves a loving home and we hope to find him one as soon as possible.
More about Virgil: he is neutered and is completely housebroken. We've had him his whole life and he has only ever had ONE accident in the house and that was because I wasn't paying attention to him telling me he needed out. Virgil is current on vaccinations, neutered, and has been on heartworm/flea medicine monthly. He was raised with a cat and has spent the last 3 years with my dog. We also dog sit our friends' two German Shepards when they go out of town. So he doesn't have issues with getting along with other animals. He has a small issue with being protective of his food. Mostly around other animals. When he starts acting protective of his food we go over to him and pick his bowl up so he knows we can touch it if we want to. All in all, Virgil is a great dog. He is so sweet and loveable. The pictures I'm including just don't do him justice. They don't show his sweet bloodhound eyes or his big soft ears or even how pretty his coloring is. They definitely don't show his loveable, laid back personality either. If you can find it in your heart to give this big, sweet boy a new home and family, please email kelley.aasr@gmail.com Virgil is located in Arkansas but will be transported to the northeast once adopted.
