Print an adoption flyer for Mama Rue! PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.
Rue, AKA Mama Rue, AKA Miss Lady Ma'am, is a happy ol’ hound dog. She is somewhere between 7 and 10 years old.
Rue has two modes. The first (and most important) is Sleep Mode. She loves sleeping so much. Spread out, coiled up, on a chair, on a rug, on the floor, she can do it all. This ol' gal sleeps at least 20 hours a day, and seems truly thrilled about it.
Her other mode is Happy Mode. When she wakes up in the morning, she’ll have a nice stretch and then look at you, doing tippy-taps and wagging her tail. If you just keep looking back at her, she’ll say, “Aroooo! Good morning!” She has a very funny, very chaotic kibble dance that often involves walking smack into walls. She's got a great roll/back scratch move. And she initiates play by slapping with her paw, like a cat. Though, phew, she needs a nap after every event!
Of the 50+ foster dogs we've walked on leash, Rue has been the very best. She walks behind us, with a perfectly loose leash, and stops to wags her tail from a polite distance if she sees someone she'd like to greet. She is also the slowest walker of all. Her top speed is one mile per hour. She thinks a quarter mile shuffle around the block twice a day is the perfect amount of exercise.
Rue enjoys attention and loves meeting people, but she’s not needy. In fact, she’s rather independent. We’ll invite her to hang out in a room with us and she’ll walk in wagging her tail, but soon enough she’ll saunter off to find a nice beam of sunlight to bask in, or an empty chair to stuff herself into.
Rue is house-trained and crate-trained. She loves kids and is good with other dogs and cats. Her only naughty habit is counter surfing. With her long legs and mighty hound nose, who can blame her? But she only goes for easy pickings, and she has the good grace to look extremely ashamed when caught. Her time and energy needs are very modest. She'd be a wonderful companion to other senior animals, or a person who likes to take things nice and slowww.

More about Mama RueGood with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.
