About Heart

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog

Update 8/4 We had hoped that the 3rd time was the charm for Heart. We were wrong. Heart's most recent adopter is surrendering her back to the rescue. She is not doing well with the other dog in the home or the adopter's elderly mother who lives there as well. We really thought this was the perfect home for her, and our hearts are broken for her to be homeless yet again. Heart came from a hoarder situation, and as most hoarder dogs, she is very unsocialized and fearful of new people/places. She needs a quiet, one person home (specifically a 1 woman home- she is more fearful of men), where she can either be separated from the other pets or be the only pet. She previously lived with other dogs without issue. She does have the capability to express affection and love for her person, but it takes time for her to get to that point. It is a process for her due to her past life, where she was shown no affection and was not given any reason to trust humans. Heart is small, about 10-12 lbs, and is supposedly a chiweenie. We are at a loss for this little girl and worried about her future. Rescues all over the country are struggling to find homes for the most social, friendly, loving dogs, so placing a dog like Heart, that requires such a specific type of home, seems impossible. We are losing hope for her and others like her, and beginning to question if we will ever see her in a forever home. Please share Heart, and if you think you could be her forever home, reach out.

Heart
Don’t let the gray on her muzzle fool you, she’s only about 2-3 years old! Heart is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix (Chiweenie) who weighs about 12 pounds. She is part of a group of dogs that were taken in from a hoarder situation that was beyond horrific. Unfortunately the dogs were not socialized and had very little human interaction. Due to this, Heart is very shy, scared, fearful, and will need a calm, patient adopter to win her trust. She is great with other dogs and cats but needs to go to a home with only women. She is extremely scared and untrusting of men. Heart is not a candidate for families with young children or homes that are super busy/loud.

Heart is crate trained. She is working on house training.

Once she warms up, she's very sweet, wants to lay in your lap. She’s playful with her foster mom and loves to run and play with the other dogs in the backyard.

Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations.
