About Lulu

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes

11/2/22 Sweet Lulu! This beautiful girl came into rescue with her 10 puppies, who have all been adopted. She is a Poodle/German Shepherd mix and is NOT "hypoallergenic." She is about 1 1/2 years old and weighs 70-75lbs. She loves all people, including kids, and other dogs who are about her size or larger. She is not good w/ dogs who are smaller than her. Also, due to the Shepherd in her, she tends to be a little bossy when it's play time. Not aggressive at all, but she has plenty of energy and really wants to play hard with other dogs. Some dogs don't enjoy that type of play so if there is another dog in the home, they need to be similar in size and energy. Lulu can co-exist with cats but if they run she may give chase. She had never harmed the cat in her foster home but the cat is pretty dog savvy. The other dog in her foster home doesn't particularly enjoy Lulu's playfness and Lulu has learned to respect her boundaries. Lulu needs an adopter who will give her firm boundaries. She needs a family who will give her plenty of opportunities to get her energy out. She wants to be with people at all times. Lulu needs a physically fenced yard. She is house and crate trained. Her new family should be patient and kind as she adjusts to her new home. Lulu is spayed, heartworm neg, and up to date on vaccinations. Here is a little more info on what Lulu needs. She is a great dog but adopters must understand her breed and understand that she has been through a lot and needs time to adjust when she gets to her new home.

PATIENCE - Lulu has been adopted twice and both adoptions failed. 1 was mainly due to family member having severe allergies, but was partially due to Lulu having separation anxiety. This 2nd adoption is failing due to her separation anxiety and crate anxiety. Lulu needs a home with someone who can help her overcome this anxiety. It is NORMAL for a dog to be anxious at first, but neither adopter gave her the necessary adjustment time. She will definitely need several weeks to adjust.

A YARD! Lulu is a shepherd/Poodle mix. Think about each of those breeds. They need plenty of exercise! A doggy door would be a huge bonus bc that is what she had in her southern foster home.
MATCHED ENERGY! If Lulu goes to a home with other pets they need to be similar in size and energy. Again, she is a Shepherd mix, which means she plays like a Shep. She is not mean or aggressive at all but she is still very young and playful and she throws her 70 lbs around in playfulness which can be intimidating to smaller, or more docile dogs.
UNDERSTANDING!!! Lulu probably needs an experienced pet owner who will be understanding of her needs. She's not a good candidate for first time pet owners. Lulu has been through a lot in her short life. She was very traumatized when she was initially surrendered to the rescue. But she loved her foster family and raised her babies with them. Then she watched her babies leave one by one and she was ok with that bc she thought she was staying, she thought she was home. Even though we go into fostering knowing it's temporary, the dogs don't know that. So it's hard on them when they are with a foster for a while and then they are sent to another home. Lulu has been with her southern foster for 3 months. Her foster loves her very much but can not keep her.
