Collie / Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed : : Female : : Young : : Medium
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.
PLEASE NOTE! These puppies are located in Arkansas. They can be transported to the northeast once they have adopters ready for them. We use www.alphadogtransport.com and www.heartsllc.com for transporting our pups to their families. We list our pups in all of the areas that we offer transport to or near. So even though it may say "This dog is in CT or VT etc" he/she is actually in Arkansas. This is the only way we have of making these pups visible to adopters in other states. We are only trying to give them every opportunity to find good homes. Thank you for understanding! 11/4/19 Piper came from a small town in rural Arkansas. The town has no animal control, no animal shelter of any kind. Our rescue was contacted by a resident who was concerned about the growing number of "street dogs" in the town. We are slowly working on getting these dogs off the streets, vetted, and into homes. We have been pleasantly surprised that these dogs have all been wonderful, sweet natured, loving babies! They have all been scared initially, I'm sure it is terrifying as they've probably never been in a vehicle except when they were dumped on the streets. But within a day or two each of them have come out of their shells and surprised us with their loving personalities. Piper is about 5-6 months old. She is part of a little family who we took from the streets. Piper has a mama and a brother and sister, and they are all wonderful. We believe Piper may be a Collie mixed with Catahoula. She has the long slender face of a Collie or Border Collie and we know her mom is a Catahoula mix. There are probably many other breeds mixed in as well. She weighs about 20 lbs now and will probably mature to about 30lbs. Piper is in a foster home where she is socializing very well with many other dogs that she just met. She is doing great with all of them, and is very respectful of their space. After only about a week in her foster home, Piper is learning that people are pretty ok and she likes them a lot! She did have some food guarding around the other dogs at first, but that is to be expected considering where she came from and how hard she had to fight just to live. She is getting much better with that every day, and we believe it will totally resolve. She is just learning that there is enough food for everyone and there is food every day and she doesn't have to fight for her share. Piper is working on house training and is learning, but will probably need some more training in that area once she gets to her forever home. It is hard in the foster setting when there are multiple dogs and her particular foster is a high volume foster home with a lot of other dogs of various ages, so there are lots of smells and it's hard to get everyone out the door before someone has an accident. So training is difficult. She will likely learn much more quickly with one on one training. She is learning all about toys and figuring out that they are really cool and those squeaky things are really interesting! I'm sure she never had a toy before so this is a new concept for her. Don't let her shyness turn you off. She is coming out of it more every day. She has had a hard life. She never had anyone to love her or do anything nice for her before now. So this whole experience is new to her. While we know that it's all good and for her best interest, she doesn't yet know that, so she is being cautious, which is smart. She learned from her experiences but that's not to say she won't also learn how wonderful life can be. She is a smart girl and she is already becoming so loving with her foster family. She just needs a family who will be willing to give her that little bit of extra time and patience, to allow her to gain some confidence and security. She will be so worth it! Piper has so much potential to be a wonderful little companion for her forever family!
