Pit Bull Terrier : : Male : : Baby : : Large
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.
PLEASE NOTE! These puppies are located in Arkansas. They can be transported to the northeast once they have adopters ready for them. We use www.alphadogtransport.com and www.heartsllc.com for transporting our pups to their families. We list our pups in all of the areas that we offer transport to or near. So even though it may say "This dog is in CT or VT etc" he/she is actually in Arkansas. This is the only way we have of making these pups visible to adopters in other states. We are only trying to give them every opportunity to find good homes. Thank you for understanding! 11/4/19 Donovan is a gorgeous 4 month old Pit Bull who was found at a park during a major storm. We don't know how he ended up there or why no one was ever looking for him, but we do know that he seemed very traumatized for several days following his rescue. Once he recovered from that, he came out of his shell and I have been delighted to see what a wonderful puppy he is. Donovan is a big time cuddler! He LOVES to be held like a baby and will let you hold him on his back and rub his belly for as long as you'll do it! He loves to be picked up and kissed and hugged. He is very much a baby and very loved, and will only go to a home where he will continue to be nurtured in this way. When Donovan first came here, he did show some pretty intense food and toy aggression towards our other resident dogs (even the adults who are much larger than him). However, after reaching out to some trainers for advice, I began to feed him separately in his crate, and then would get him out and work with him individually, hand feeding him each piece of food and making him sit each time. Thankfully, after only about a week of that, he made a complete turn around. He now eats along with my other dogs and shares his toys willingly. I think he was just still a bit traumatized from his time on his own, where he may have had to fight to eat, and it just took him a little time to realize that there is food for everyone and that's not necessary. Same with toys. There are plenty for everyone so he doesn't have to fight for them. He has made friends with every dog here, both fosters and resident dogs, and plays and cuddles with everyone. Donovan is one of the smartest puppies I have ever seen. He learned "sit" the first time I showed him and since that first time, he will automatically sit any time he thinks I have food or something he wants. He picked up super fast that if he wants something, he has to sit for it. He is having a little more trouble with "down" and "stay" but he is young. This little boy will make such an amazing dog for someone. I wish I could keep him, but unfortunately I have more dogs than I can handle, and have a very territorial male already. Honestly, if not for that, I would make room for Donovan to stay. But I'm afraid as he matures, it may cause problems for my alpha male. Donovan is already 35-40lbs at only about 4 months old. So he is going to be a BIG boi! But he will still want to cuddle with you even when he's an 80 lbs lap dog! I am going to hate to let this baby go, but I will be so happy for him to find a home where he can continue his training and get more one on one attention than I can give him here. He is too smart to stop his training where he's at. He has the potential to learn so much. I could see him being a service dog or support dog easily. My hope is that his new family will help him reach his full potential. It's hard to see his true color in his pictures. He is a beautiful silvery fawn, and he has green eyes. He is also quite beefy now compared to some of the photos, which were taken a couple of weeks ago. The first photo is more accurate, and is current, taken on Nov. 6.
