3/2022   What words can I say to get people interested in our longest term rescue, Roscoe? We can say he's a good boy. We can say he's great with kids. We can say he's been good with some dogs, but not all dogs. (Do you love every person you meet?) We can say he's playful. We can say he's friendly. We can say he's loving. We have already said all of those things, but still he waits. Roscoe came into rescue in May 2018. That's almost 4 years that he's waited for a home. He was a 4 month old puppy then. He came from a rural kill shelter, and was rescued in the nick of time. When he was rescued, we had nowhere to put him except an outdoor kennel with another dog, Raven. Raven was a mature dog at that time and Roscoe has grown up with her. Raven is an old lady now and they are still kennel mates. Raven needs to be able to be brought inside the house, due to her deteriorating health, but we can't do that because Roscoe would be left all alone out there and he's never been alone before but when we remove her from the kennel he gets anxious. He would be ok in a home as an only dog, as long as he had humans to keep him company. That's a different scenario than being left completely alone in an outdoor kennel. Roscoe has met many dogs that he wants to play with and has been friendly to most. But there have been a couple of dogs that he didn't do well with. He likes to keep his circle small. Recently, he had an encounter with a boxer who growled at him and he reacted to her aggression. But he does fine with dogs who don't challenge him. He chases cats and chickens so he needs a home that's free of small critters that he thinks he should chase. This includes tiny dogs, although he has been ok with the resident Chinese crested. He's just big and strong and doesn't realize his size in comparison to small dogs. He is about 65-70 pounds and is all muscel. His foster family includes a 3 year old little girl and a 2 year old little boy who he has watched grow from infancy and he adores them. He is a big strong boy but is very gentle with them. I've only seen Roscoe in person a handful of times and each time he has greeted me with endless kisses. He loves people. His favorite person is his foster dad. He is very obedient with his dad, but like most kids, he tests his boundaries with his mom and others who he perceives as less in control. He just needs a strong leader, someone authoritative to guide him, so he can learn to be the best boy that he can be. He craves leadership and responds very well to training.
The gist of it is, he just needs a home with a person who will see his worth and help him realize his potential. We are praying the right person will see this. He has waited long enough. In his time in rescue, we have adopted out well over 1,000 dogs. None of them were superior to Roscoe in any way. He has just as much love to offer as any dog does. But still, he waits. Please consider giving him a chance. He will be so worth your effort. He is so loyal and loving, and he deserves more than we've been able to give him. Please share this post. We need help reaching the right person. I know his family is out there. We just have to find them.
