About Zei

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog

12/2/14 Meet Zei (rhymes with Jay). Zei was a stray that had been dumped in a neighborhood. I resident there took a picture of him and begged for someone to help him because he had a huge tumor growing on his abdomen and he was not making it on his own. I agreed to help him and they brought him to me the next morning. We had the tumor removed (the last picture is him before surgery). The tumor alone weighed just over 15lbs. Zei was terribly thin and malnourished when he came to me but once we got the tumor removed, he felt like a million bucks and has been putting on weight since then. Zei also had to undergo heartworm treatment but has handled it all beautifully. I can not say enough good about this boy. We think he is about 7 years old. He seemed to be about that age when he came to me, but after removing his tumor, its like we took several years off of his age. He acts like a young dog again. Zei is wonderful with other dogs of all sizes, even puppies. He loves everyone and has no aggression at all. Even when challenged by my Great Dane, Zei just turns and goes the other way, avoiding any conflict. Zei is completely crate trained and is also house trained. He loves to lie on a soft bed after he's played for a bit. He walks well on a leash and is very protective. I have a semi feral dog that lives in my back yard and he and Zei are friends. However, Zei's other friend, Java, who is a small Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix doesn't get along well with the semi feral dog, Dallas. At one point, I was carrying Java to bring her inside and Dallas started to charge towards me, trying to get at Java, but all Zei saw was that Dallas was charging me. He got between me and Dallas, and growled low to warn Dallas not to come any closer to me. He stayed between us until I got inside. There has been more than one instance of that happening. Zei loves with his whole heart. He doesn't hold any grudges towards people for the neglect he suffered for probably his entire life. He is just grateful to have a soft bed to lie on and regular meals and some love. He is a happy boy and doesn't ask for much. He is probably the easiest foster dog I've ever had. He is truly wonderful and the person who adopts him will be very lucky to have such a devoted, loyal friend and companion. the tumor that was removed was sent in for pathology and it was a cancerous tumor. However, it was a slow growing, non invasive cancer and the pathologist felt good about the surgeon removing the whole tumor. The chances of the tumor coming back are slim. Metastasis is not expected. Zei is expected to have a full life. Zei is located here in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adopted. For more info, email Kelley.aasr@gmail.com
