PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.
1/9/13 Kelsey is a wonderful little girl who was rescued from a kill shelter here in ARkansas. Kelsey is about 2 years old and was an owner surrender due to financial constraints. We had Kelsey spayed last week and she weighed in at 11lbs. Kelsey gets along great with other dogs and loves everyone she meets. She is currently in an indoor/outdoor kennel type situation so I can't attest to whether or not she is housetrained but I can say that she is crate trained. Kelsey stays inside in a crate at night and she does not have potty accidents in her crate, nor does she bark excessively. She is a good little girl who really wants a family to love and call her own. Kelsey appears to be a shih-tzu/brussels griffon mix, but we have no way of knowing for sure what her heritage is. Kelsey has 2 issues. One is that she is a "submissive wetter". She pees when you reach towards her to pick her up. This is often times an indication of past abuse, although we do not know for sure that she has been abused. She seems very insecure and unsure of herself. I believe once she is in a home with people who love her and she learns that she is not in any danger, she will overcome this on her own. But there is no way to know for sure - there is a possibility that she will always have this little problem, so her new family should be prepared to deal with that patiently, as scolding her will only make it worse. Kelsey's other issue is that she tested light positive on her heartworm test. Kelsey has been started on a slow kill treatment regime that she is tolerating very well. She is not symptomatic and is expected to completely recover. She will be sent to her new home with at least 6 months of medication and should be retested after that medication is completed. Kelsey is still located here in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adotped. For more info, email kelley.aasr@gmail.com.
