PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.

Virgil is a 4 year old male Bloodhound/Great Pyrenees mix. He is such a perfect mix of the two breeds. He has the adorable bloodhound eyes and soft floppy ears. Virgil loves to cuddle and loves nothing more than to be petted and loved on. He is an indoor dog but also enjoys outside time. Virgil's family has a baby and he is a bit nervous around her. He has never bit her or harmed her in anyway, but she's at the age where she is hyper, running around and doesn't know personal space. She just wants to be in his face and on top of him all the time and that makes Virgil nervous and he doesn't like it. It's okay for him to be around children, just not little children that are in his face all the time. As long as the child knows to give him his space and not be all over him all the time, everything will be fine! Other than that he does well with all people.
More about Virgil: he is neutered and is completely housebroken. He gets along great with other dogs, but does have a small issue with being protective of his food. Mostly around other animals. When he starts acting protective of his food we go over to him and pick his bowl up so he knows we can touch it if we want to. He has never bit us for doing that. We feed him outside though because I don't know if he would be quite as okay with my daughter messing with his food.  This seems to be Virgil's only drawback. Otherwise, he is a wonderful dog and will make an excellent companion for the right family.
We are desperately searching for a foster home for Virgil, where he will be safe until he gets adopted. His family is only giving him until Feb. 22nd to find a place to go, then he is off to the shelter, where he would be completely traumatized. Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.
