About Peek-A-Boo **no longer accepting applications

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
4/23/23

It's the pout for me! Introducing Peek-a-boo! She is a 3 1/2 month old Pekingese puppy who came to us at 8-9 weeks old. She was surrendered by the breeder after another puppy scratched her eyes during play, and the breeder failed to take her to a vet. She then could not sell her because her eyes were in such terrible shape, so she surrendered her to the rescue, rather than spend any money to get her healthy. She sold all the other puppies as well as her breeding stock because she is supposedly going out of business, thank God. She made all that money but couldn't spare any of it to help this little one. By the time she surrendered her, Peek's eyes were so bad that her left eye had to be removed. They had become badly infected, making her very sick. The right eye has a scar on the cornea. She can see out of the eye, but her vision is definitely impaired. But don't let that fool you! It doesn't slow her down one bit! She is an active, happy, playful little girl who has energy and personality for days! She can see well enough to not run into things, and has no trouble finding her food bowls, etc. Being so young, this is all she knows, so it's easier than an older dog losing their vision. When she came to us, Peek was very under weight at only 2 lbs. She is now about 5 lbs and is growing every day but will probably always be small. She makes up for it with her extra large personality! Peek will need her adopter to work with her on house training. We are not able to allow puppies outside here, due to parvo virus in the environment, so she has been strictly indoors since coming to us. She will use potty pads, but you have to watch her because she confuses them with toys and will shred them. She would do better with the washable cloth potty pads. Peek is a stage 5 shoe thief and loves nothing more than a good, well worn shoe to play with. She hasn't been destructive with ours, but we take them from her quickly, before she has a chance to do any real damage. Peek hasn't learned yet that her teeth are sharp and they really hurt, so she probably wouldn't be the best choice for a home with young children, and she will need an adopter to teach her to be gentle when playing. She loves to be held though, and as soon as she is picked up, she cuddles into your neck and makes the sweetest baby sounds you've ever heard! She will stay like that for a long time, until you put her down, then as soon as her feet hit the floor, she's back to full speed. She really is a funny little girl and is so much fun! Peek-a-boo is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm/flea/tick, dewormings, spayed, and microchipped. We will miss her, but she is ready to go to a home where she can learn all the things and bond to her new family.
