5/16/19 Lexi is a rescued mama from a puppy mill. Despite her terrible early life, Lexi holds absolutely no grudges against anyone and she adores every person she meets, and greets everyone with a full on butt wiggle. Lexi came to us on Easter Sunday, along with her 3 babies that she had 6 weeks prior. All 3 babies were deformed in one way or another. The puppy miller was going to kill Lexi and all the puppies because he couldn't sell the puppies and it wasn't worth it to breed Lexi again if she was going to have deformed babies that weren't going to bring in any money. :( There is a lot that goes into this type of rescue. There is a lot of expense and heart ache and emotional turmoil that you just can not imagine if you are not part of it. It is the most gut wrenching thing. Lexi got her first experience outside on Easter Sunday. Her feet touched grass for the first time in her life on Easter Sunday. She felt the sun on her sweet face and the wind blow against her, for the first time, on Easter Sunday. She is 4 years old. She has had litter after litter of babies. Her breasts almost drag the ground. She had a severe cherry eye. She has lived with ear infections for so long that both of her ears are all scar tissue and hardened and closed up. She still has some hearing, but it is not as good as it should be. We have had her cherry eye surgically repaired and we have had her spayed. There is nothing to be done for her ears, other than keeping them clean. She has lived a life of hell and we have made her a solemn promise that hell ended for her on Easter Sunday. Lexi is fantastic with other dogs and ignores cats. She adores children, even babies. She does not care for young puppies. Her babies were taken from her and tube fed so she never got the opportunity to be a mother once she delivered them. I'm sure there is some emotional issues there, where puppies are concerned. Lexi is 44 lbs and this is a good weight for her. Her skin and coat is a little dull now, due to recently having puppies, but with good nutrition and care, it will be in better shape soon. Her eye is still healing but is doing great and we expect no complications. Lexi has an adoption fee of $800. This is in line with what the English Bulldog specific rescues charge for adult English Bulldogs, and it reflects what we have had to pay for her surgeries and care. If there is any money left from her adoption fee, after her vet bill is paid off, that money will be used to help other dogs that are in our rescue waiting for heartworm treatment or other procedures. We are not trying to make money off of any of our dogs. But vet care is not free or cheap. We pay for it just like everyone else has to. We get a very small discount, but we spend thousands every month on vetting our rescue babies and we must charge adoption fees to cover those costs. Please do not email me to complain about her fees or to try to negotiate her fees. It is explained here. English Bulldogs are an adorable, sweet, but very expensive breed of dog to maintain. If you have never owned one, please research the breed and be sure you know what you are getting in to. They are not for everyone.
