American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) : : Male : : Young : : Large
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.
Monkey is still learning to play like a dog. We are working on the mechanics of things like catch, and tug of war. He seems to think getting toweled off is a game, and tries to turn it into one.
He loves bacon and bacon flavored treats, as well as peanut butter—much like other dogs! He’s not a food hoarder, and not defensive about food.
Monkey is a very noise tolerant dog. Household noises don’t bother him—hairdryer, vacuum, drill. Thunder causes nothing more than a raised head of interest. He’s not much for water though. He’s also not much for something that might be misinterpreted as a striking motion (for example, if you win at tug of war, and the rope swings upward he skitters away very fast).
Overall he is a curious pup, and wants to see everything you are doing, smell everything, and look at/watch so much that happens around him. He loves carrides and doesn’t have any issues there. He’s happiest with his nose at the window, enjoying a stream of air, and sniffing.
He’s done well meeting the dogs around the neighborhood—bichon mixes behind him, Chihuahuas on the right, boxers on the left, and springers catty-corner. They all sniff and bark at him, but he just watches them and wags his tail—then marks along the fence! He has been spending parts of his days with his foster-mom’ friend and her dogs—a German Shepherd and another pibble. They get a long great, and he is SO excited to visit his friends. They play well together, but sometimes Monkey’s puppy energy wears on them.
He’s an absolute lover, and as typical of a pibble, doesn’t meet a stranger. He has been around younger children (~age 6-7) and adults in his foster life. He gets excited and we are working on him not jumping up on people. We are also working on him not jumping up and putting his paws on counters/tables/furniture—as well as manners in general. He knows sit/lay down and “stay” to a point. His curiosity and desire to keep an eye on someone will cause him to break ‘stay’.
Learning to truly ‘stay’ and ‘stay’ in face of distractions is something that is going to need worked on (but we are working).
Ultimately, so far, Monkey likes company. As his foster mom, I think he will be best suited for a house with multiple dogs—OR someone who works from home.
