10.4.17 Sam is a handsome boxer who was found running around a neighborhood. After a couple of weeks, a resident in the neighborhood brought him into rescue, fearing that he would be hit by a car. We felt sure that he would be claimed by an owner, but that didn't turn out to be the case. No one ever came looking for him. Sam was extremely underweight when he came to us. We have tried very hard to help him gain weight, but as is the case with many boxers, Sam has been stressed in the shelter environment and we have been unsuccessful with putting weight on him. Unfortunately, Sam has heartworms and needs treatment. This could also be a contributing factor to his low weight. The treatment for a dog his size is about $600-$800. We are hoping to raise the funds to have him treated soon, and then he will be neutered and be available for adoption after that. If you would like to donate towards Sam's heartworm treatment, donations may be made by using the paypal link or the mailing address below. We hope that Sam will have a home waiting for him once he has been treated and neutered, so we are taking applications for him now. His adoption fee will be $250 and the transport fee is $140. Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.
