9/4/17 Maxine is such a sweet little girl. She was an owned dog who loved her mom very much and was completely devoted to her. Sadly, her mama passed away and the family didn't care to take care of Maxine. Rather than finding her a home, they simply turned her outside to fend for herself. Being a small (maybe 10lbs) senior dog of approximately 10 years old, she had no chance of surviving on her own. The next door neighbor didn't even realize Maxine's owner had passed away, until she noticed Maxine outside for several days. When she started asking other neighbors, and found out what happened, she brought Maxine into rescue. Poor old girl. She cried audibly for her first several days here. I know it was hard on her to lose her mama and the only home she's ever known. Since coming into rescue, she has adjusted and is now a happy old lady once again. She loves her foster mom and we know that she will adjust to a new, forever family as well. She sleeps in the bed with her foster mom and we want her to be able to continue that in her new home. We believe she was allowed to sleep in her original owner's bed and that's what she knows and it is a good bonding time for her. Although Maxine is an older lady, she is in good health and has a lot of love to give. She quite possibly has many good years left, as the smaller breeds tend to live well into their teen years. We are hopeful that we can find a loving home for Maxine to retire in for the rest of her years, however long that may be. Maxine is located in Arkansas and will be transported out of state once she is adopted.
